Mears Automotive, founded by Charles R. Mears, has been serving the Mattoon area since 1962. In 1984, Mr. Mears purchased our current building at 77 Piatt Avenue and added an addition in 1999. Bret and Nelle Meadows purchased the business in May of 2006. We have two technicians, Frank Simmons and John Smith, who worked for Mr. Mears for several years and continue to offer their expertise in the repair and maintenance of customer vehicles. Aaron Meadows helps out part-time doing several jobs, including vehicle pickup and delivery. We intend to carry out the "Mears" tradition of the highest quality repairs in the area, while extending to our customers the added benefit of exceptional customer service, all at a reasonable cost. Management Team and Key Personnel Bret Meadows, Owner and President. Bret has been involved in the automotive industry for more than 30 years. He is ASE master certified and factory trained. Bret has an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Lake Land College and also attended Northwood University. Nelle Meadows, Owner and Office Manager. Nelle has attended Eastern Illinois University with an accounting major. She has been a bookkeeper and secretary, including many years as a legal secretary. John Smith, Automotive Technician. John has more than 25 years experience as an automotive and truck technician and has been with Mears Automotive for 18 years. He has ASE certification and specializes in driveability and electrical concerns. Frank Simmons, Automotive Technician. With over 20 years experience in automotive repair, Frank is a Master ASE Technician. He has been with Mears Automotive for 7 years. Aaron Meadows has graduated from Lake Land College with an associates in Business Administration. He is currently attending Eastern Illinois University majoring in Management Information Systems and minoring in Accounting. His expertise is with computers and he helps out with everything from the website to answering the phone and completing customer invoices.
